Family Law CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of King County is a non-profit agency. Our mission is to recruit, screen, train, supervise and support community volunteers who are appointed to investigate custody and visitation disputes in order to give children a voice in court. The CASA office is located in downtown Seattle at 811 First Avenue, Suite 201, Seattle, Washington, 98104. We can be reached at 206-748-9700 and by fax at 206-748-9707. Our program is available to low and moderate income families. (For details, refer to our income qualification guidelines). To access our services, an Order Appointing Family Law CASA must be signed by a King County Superior Court Judge or Commissioner. To get an Order signed, a party to a family law case (divorce, paternity, non-parental custody or modifications) must file a motion asking to have Family Law CASA appointed. In the resources section there is a link to the mandatory court forms, including a Motion for a Temporary Order. We do not prepare motions for appointment. If you need assistance, look in the resource section for legal services. The Court can also appoint Family Law CASA on its own motion. Once CASA has been assigned to a case, the staff assigns a volunteer to investigate the matter and notice is sent to all parties involved. To learn more about the work of the volunteer look in the volunteer section under summary. To learn about becoming a volunteer and to obtain an application, look in the volunteer section. Here's a list of our Board of Directors. |
