New Advocate Training
The training needed to be a qualified CASA Advocate.
Family Law CASA trains volunteers so they are well-prepared for their role. If you are accepted into the program, you must undergo a four-day, 21-hour, state-mandated training which is normally offered two or three times a year. The training curriculum includes interviewing techniques, background on family law, substance abuse, child development and domestic violence topics, as well as other critical issues.
The next training for new advocates is scheduled for October 14-15 and October 21-22, 2010, . The start times and locations will be set later. To be eligible for training, you must submit a complete application and essay, undergo a criminal records check, and schedule an interview with CASA staff. The CASA staff will notify you after the interview if you have been accepted into the training. Applicants need to be 21 years old. For questions related to training, call the office at 206-748-9700.
The Family Law CASA program also offers ongoing training sessions for experienced volunteers who are required to have 10 hours of ongoing training each year. See the ongoing training schedule.
