New Advocate Training

The training needed to be a qualified CASA Advocate.

Family Law CASA trains volunteers so they are well-prepared for their role. If you are accepted into the program, you must undergo a four-day, 21-hour, state-mandated training which is normally offered two or three times a year. The training curriculum includes interviewing techniques, background on family law, substance abuse, child development and domestic violence topics, as well as other critical issues.

The next advocate training will take place on January 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th, 2012. Advocate trainigs are all day and the location alternates between downtown and the 2100 building. To be eligible for training, you must submit a complete application and essay, undergo a criminal records check, and schedule an interview with CASA staff. The CASA staff will notify you after the interview if you have been accepted into the training. Applicants need to be 21 years old. The Family Law CASA program also offers ongoing training sessions for experienced volunteers who are required to have 10 hours of ongoing training each year.
